Web and Blog News
This is the original web site I started back in 1995, that's 15-years ago next year. Wow! that's several lifetimes by web evolution. In the beginning this site wasn't much, but then none were. It's grown as the technology grew. But I've always hand coded this site, never used a software other than a simple text editor. This is to ensure the site validates for strict web standards, The style sheets too.
The hand coding is time consuming. These days I prefer the blog format because of the ease of posting and maintaining the blog and the extra's like widgets for just about everything, especially including Feeds, just is difficult on this web site.
Sine the end of 2005 I have used Blogspot and I can say I've always been very happy with the site, especially since it remains free. The Blogger or Blogspot site has grown into a very nice site with so many features.
This year, for a few month I did try out Wordpress but I wasn't really impressed with the free version, and since I already pay for my Apple Mobile Me account, the host for this site, I wasn't into paying Wordpress to have the extra features. ButI would if I didn't have Mobile Me. In the end, I deleted the Wordpress blog.
This web site is hosted on four sites. Two here on the Mobile Me, another is part of experimenting with the Opera browser. You can have your own although some what limited server as part of the browser. Very interesting idea. If you want to know more, check out Opera Unite. It will never, at least for the moment, replace current web hosting because when your computer is off, so is the browser server. Another site I've been trying out for a few months, is an alternative to Mobile Me, which runs at about $100 per year, is a Swedish site called Mydisk, Apple's site is actually called iDisk. The first 2GB of storage are free, you pay for more if you need it. I don't know what the bandwidth limit is because there don't seem to be one. Anyway if you want a free site for mac users and need less than 2Gb, then this is a good one. http://mydisk.se/zichi/webpage/index.html
Recently, I've started a few new blogs. One for painting and another for photo's. I want to spend less time maintaining this web site from 2010, a blog is the way to do it. If I was starting today, I would start with a blog format. But after 15 years, it's hard to totally let go of this site.
I have also started a Posterous Blog which I really like because of the ease of posting. It's early days so they need to add a few widgets which I think will probably happen next year. I think eventually, probably sometime next year, Posterous will become my main blog(s).
